Torn between two decisions for where to go tomorrow. Easter show with tt and an opportunity to meet up with friends I haven't seen in months, or searching for venues to hold my sister's wedding... I guess it's the perfect opportunity for my brother to remind me that blood is thicker than water, but on the other hand, neglecting friends for months isn't good either.

Have a feeling I'd be going to take photos of wedding venues afterall. =|

While soup is cooking in the magic cooker for dinner tonight, I shall write about Chinta Ria =D Located in Darling Harbour, we stumbled upon it by accident while walking around. I've read about it on eatability before, and it received quite a good rating overall, but I never really knew where it was. Found it, and decided to come back when it was open.
From Week 15, 2010
There it is! It translates to "Temple of Love". Heh. Sounds corny enough, but it's actually quite a popular place.

From Week 15, 2010
It opens at 12 for lunch, but there were already people waiting outside before it opened. Upon entering, the waiter asked if we had a reservation. For lunch. Hm... It's a big place, with seats inside and outside. Quite a few people decided to dine outside, I'm guessing because the weather was great that day, and there's a smell of incense burning within the restaurant. Not strong, but enough to put some people off.

From Week 15, 2010
The main feature of attraction is just inside the door.

From Week 15, 2010
A giant laughing buddha. We were wondering how they even got that inside the restaurant, considering how the doors were smaller than this stone buddha. Hm... I guess since this is supposed to be a temple of love, they should have some sort of god inside...

From Week 15, 2010
More interior photos. It's actually quite strange, the interior. It's not classy or posh, but it's definitely towards the higher end of dining.

From Week 15, 2010
The tables are wood, chairs are wooden stools or generic plastic chairs. The bowls and chopsticks are those you'd typically see in hawker centres, but the owner is very pedantic about the placements of the bowls, chopsticks, and if the table is shaky, he'd get someone over and show them how to adjust the bottom of the legs to make it stable.

From Week 15, 2010
Lobak! I really like this. Actually, I just like lobak in general because it's... just nice =D Served with hoisin sauce, it wasn't too oily, and came out crispy and fresh. Quick service too.

From Week 15, 2010
Niom!

From Week 15, 2010
Tt's nasi lemak. I didn't get to try very much of this since I'm apparently still sick =P but it definitely wasn't as good as my dish.

From Week 15, 2010
超好き、これ!It's their curry laksa. At first, I was a bit skeptical about this, since I still have a cough, but then I didn't really want to try any rice dishes but the nasi lemak, which tt already ordered, and I didn't really want the usual char kway teow or stir fried noodles... ordering laksa is actually a good way to test the standard of Malaysian/Singaporean restaurants. This one pass with flying colours =D It has the vermicelli and hokkien noodles along with chicken pieces (quite a lot of chicken... I had more chicken than noodles!), fried tofu, fishpaste slices, beansprouts, basil, snap peas..... I think that was about it? Really nice though, and I didn't feel sick after eating it, so it passes!

We called for the bill, thinking "ok, we're done, let's pay and go", but just as the guy was bringing the bill over to our table, the girl who took our order asked if we wanted any dessert and we decided to have a look at their dessert menu.

From Week 15, 2010
Have not had banana fritters in ages, so we decided to just finish the meal with dessert, even though it was just lunch ^^'' It came with coconut ice cream... strange thing about this was that even though the fritter was obviously deep fried, they must have drained and soaked up all the oil with papers really well, it wasn't oily at all. Very crispy outside, piping hot banana inside, and with ice cream, it was SO good! I had most of this cos tt was full (yea right, it was cos I was "sick" =P). We looked around and a lot of people were getting their fried rice and another dish along with the rice, so their fried rice must be good... will have to go back there to try it =D The place was getting really full when we left. Popular place indeed~

From Week 15, 2010
Night markets on Friday nights! Random baby showed up in my photo of the lamb and chicken skewers... the chicken one was really good and can be bought from the big store in the middle of the whole market that sells bagua (rip-off at $4 per piece of bagua!!)

From Week 15, 2010
Also got a stick of soy quail eggs =D My brother would love this actually, but he's been busy going out with his own group of friends, so too bad for him~

From Week 15, 2010
Last week was mangosteen, this week? Rambutans~

From Week 15, 2010
I never really liked rambutans as a kid because the meat tends to stick to the seed and there's this layer of "wood" which is very hard to remove. My mum likes it though, so I got it for her =)

New week starting soon =( Nooo...

Hm i've never actually had banana fritters like that before, except in a similar chinese dessert. Also for the laksa, that's the first time i've ever seen you completely finish a dish =P

It was good! You agreed =P I wonder if their fried rice is really that good... almost every table ordered it!

Let's have fried ice cream next =D

I have the same problem with rambutans... Layer of seed getting stuck on the flesh. Annoying!

Unknown said...

That means it's overripe... apparently if it's freshly picked off the tree, the flesh doesn't stick to the seed at all.

Not that we have rambutan trees here =P

I've only had rambutans in australia once... when a whole tray was given to my family as a present. It must've been expensive!

The rest of the time I've had them in malaysia, so I don't know why they'd be overripe :(
